WASHINGTON — August 7, 2012 —  The American Islamic Congress sends its condolences to the victims of two acts of domestic terrorism targeting American religious minorities that occurred earlier this week.

On Sunday, August 6, a gunman opened fire at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, killing six people and wounding three. Following this shooting, an Islamic Center in Joplin, Missouri, was burned to ground in a fire. These incidents further highlight the misplaced fear, discrimination, and hate that Muslims and Sikhs face on a daily basis in the United States.

AIC Executive Director Zainab al-Suwaij released a statement condemning the attacks, saying: “These faith communities came to this country seeking democracy and freedom and hoping to worship the way they wish.”
