Community Engagement

The Manara Campaign is a 2017 Project Nur initiative that is a response to a politically, culturally, and socially evolving nation; it is a call to action in light of new challenges and opportunities that present themselves under new American leadership.

Beginning in 2008, the American Islamic Congress, in collaboration with Cure Violence, launched the Ambassadors for Peace (A4P) campaign in Basrah and Sadr City, Baghdad. Cure Violence is a Chicago-based organization specializing in violence prevention, viewing violence as a public health issue.

On August 1, 2014, the “Citizenship Academy Project: A Coalition for Tunisia” was launched by OVC (Will and Citizenship Organization) and American Islamic Congress. This pre-election voter awareness campaign aims to encourage the participation of marginalized groups such as women and youth living in the south of Tunisia and rural remote areas.

American Islamic Congress, the Sudanese-American Community Development Organization, the Sudanese Human Rights Organization, and the Sudanese- American Women’s Organization partnered for a discussion on bullying among U.S. minority youth communities.

Project Nur student’s gathered to discuss the prevailing role of social media in recruiting Westerners to join the ranks of ISIS. Students from George Washington University, George Mason University, and North Virginia Community College attended the workshop, which presented the use of Twitter by ISIS, case studies of recruited individuals, and the shortcomings of the criminal justice system in dealing with Western’s recruited by ISIS.

A pioneering partnership between AIC and the American Jewish Committee, “Witness” focuses on human stories to educate the public about Muslims’ and Jews’ shared history in the Middle East and shared stake in protecting human rights in the region.
