“AIC Extends Sympathy to the Victims of the Orlando Shooting, their Families, and the LGBT community”

(Washington, D.C., 6/13/16) – The American Islamic Congress (AIC), first and foremost, extends the deepest sympathies with the LGBT community following the shooting that took place this past weekend. AIC expresses solidarity with the 50 killed, the 53 wounded, and all of the victims’ families. AIC vehemently condemns the violent attacks and encourages resilience and the promotion of peace in the face of hate crimes.

Unfortunately, the tragedy in Orlando is one of many ongoing hate crimes against a specific group of people, across the globe. Now more than ever, AIC is strengthening its commitment to support minority communities and condemn violence and radicalism, of all types.

The American Islamic Congress (AIC) is a nonprofit, non-religious, civil society development organization serving Muslims and non-Muslims by promoting civil and human rights through advocacy, engagement and education. AIC was founded in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001 by a diverse group of American Muslims to combat negative stereotypes and to provide an alternative American Muslim voice in speaking out against extremism and terrorism. AIC also supports human and civil rights activists and programs in the Middle East and North Africa through its international bureaus and numerous programs, conferences, and training workshops.
